Grrr...too many choices

February 6th, 2008 at 11:31 pm

So I have an allowance now. Its not a big one, but its an allowance that is guilt free.

I just found out that Masterpiece Theatre has released some new Jane Austin redos on DVD and fanatic that I am I really really want them.

Only problem, is that I was already planning on buying 2 very nice pair of boots for work, one black and one brown to replace the 2 pair that are almost completely worn through. I have good reason to believe that these nice boots are almost sold out and need to be bought quickly if I really want them.

So do you know what will happen? I will buy the movies and just not get the boots. This is how I ended up with such a limited wardrobe in the first place. There is always something that I want more than clothes.

At least I only buy movies that I know I will watch obsessively, the rest I see through netflix.

I suppose I could afford 1 pair of boots and all the DVD's but then I would be broke. Frown

Nope, my footwear will simply have to limp along and make it through the end of the season. I knew I should have had them resoled before I wore through the main part of the heel...

These have been airing on my PBS station for the past four weeks. I just record them rather than buy them.
Have you checked the PBS schedule in your state?

P.S. My favorite is Mansfield Park

Instead of Netflix, I'd try the library. It's free.

daylily: I only found out about them today. I have to admit I watch very little TV and what I do watch tends to be the cooking channel. I also lack a DVD recorder so no way to record TV. I wish I had known they were playing because I would have watched them (if I could bother to be watching TV at that time) but it looks like most of them are done airing. I actually love them all but P&P is the fav.

compulsive debtor: my biggest drawback to libraries is the time table. Sometimes, I just don't get to things immediately. Thats why I stopped going to them. I would have to return things I hadn't had a chance to get to. Heck, I periodically cancel my netflix subscription for the same reason, lol.

If the boots are something you will wear every (or almost every) day, then buy the boots and save up for the DVDs. I'm sure the DVDs will be out for sale for a long time yet and you should be able to buy one DVD at a time as you get the required amount saved for each one. If they go off sale before you get them all, you can always go on Ebay, Amazon, etc. and get a new or barely used one.

If you just can't wait to get the DVDs, buy one pair of boots and your favorite DVD and save up for the rest of the movies. That way you'll at least get both what you need (boots) and something of what you want.

The way my allowance had been eaten up by bills, I couldn't even really get one pair of boots without being broke (I know its not obvious from my post, but I wasn't talking about just one month's allowance, I was talking about a couple). SO I adjusted my allowance so I have some free money. I did manage to get the 1 pair of boots that I needed the most. I told DH that I will probably start buying multiple of shoes when I find them cheap since I can't seem to make them last through a season...He said that would probably be best since he doesn't understand how I destroy them so quickly but its obvious they don't survive me well.

As to the DVD's, I won't count on my having a lot of self control but I might surprise myself. I recently bought a video game that had been sitting on my Amazon wishlist for 2 years so that should tide me quite a while.
